Strawberry Feast

A recent birthday card for a friend. Not sure where the 80’s inspiration came from for the jumpsuit! I like it though and will probably have a go at doing more…

Goozberry Green (Wo)Man

This was the spark for those two recent doodles of faces surrounded by nature (here and here – more on the way). I did this as a birthday card, as the person it was for has always been interested in the Green Man myth/imagery. At first I wasn’t convinced it was going to work out as it’s a bit of a departure from what I usually do (I think so anyway), but in the end I was pleased with it – and even more pleased to realise the possibilities for doing more of this kind of thing were kind of endless! Keep checking in :)

Cats and Books and Birthdays…Again

Birthdaycat

Another birthday card! This one went to my dad. I realised once I’d finished it that it’s quite similar to the one I gave him last year (this fella in his library over here) but then again when I think of my dad I think of cats and books as he loves both – though maybe next year I’ll try something different!

…as a scribbled note in my sketchbook said before I started this. Well, I knew what I meant! and this is sort of it (things never turn out exactly like they looked in your head, do they?). This is the first birthday card of the year for me, and it went to my lovely little niece :)

Another Goozeberry Birthday

SCN_0126-002

Another birthday card (see last post), this time for my Dad. He loves cats and books – it’s in the genes – so what else to draw but a cat with his own library? I had so much fun doing this, filling the space with all those books and making the place look nicely dilapidated! There is also a sneaky little rat hidden away in there somewhere too* if you can spot him (hint: he is not entirely in the frame). This was one of he first things I did using Bristol board rather than cartridge paper too – I think it gives the cat a nice crisp whiteness. The next birthday card is due in April, so for now it’s back to working deadline-free…
